The Tower Card Doesn't Mean What You Think - Here's the Real Message

Picture this: you're doing a reading - for yourself, a friend, maybe a client. The cards are flowing, everything is making sense, the energy is good. And then there it is.

Without warning. Like a bull in a china shop.

The Tower. (Dun dun DUNNNNN.)

I don't care how long you've been reading tarot - I'm at 11 years and I still feel it. That little clench. That intake of breath. But what if we didn't have to react that way? Or, what if we still do, but we walk away with a completely different perspective on what this card is actually trying to say?

Let's talk about it. For real this time.

First, Let's Look at What the Tower Actually Is

Yes, most interpretations of the Tower center around chaos and change. Which tracks. One of my favorite decks has actually renamed this card "Life Experience" - because that's truly what it is. But if you know it's the Tower, you know the vibes.

Here's the thing though: the tower in the image didn't just appear overnight. It had to be planned. Materials had to be gathered. The perfect spot had to be found. Then it had to be built, brick by brick.

That tower represents something you built - something you got used to, something you found security in. Depending on the reading, it could be a job, a relationship, or something more internal, like thought patterns or coping mechanisms you constructed to keep yourself safe. Either way, it's something you thought was sturdy. Solid. Sound.

What Each Symbol in the Tower Card Is Actually Telling You

The crown at the top of the tower? That's the arrogance that creeps in when we get too comfortable with the things we've built. We stop questioning them. We take them for granted. Sometimes we even abuse them because we're so sure they'll always be there.

The lightning is the "holy shit" moment. The unexpected. The thing that comes out of nowhere and topples everything around you.

And the people falling out of the tower? That could be you. Your client. Your friend. The people around you who will be impacted by this shake-up too. Because this card is also a reminder that you are never the only person your actions touch.

The Real Message: The Universe Shakes You to Wake You

This is how I look at the Tower: it's a jolt. It takes you out of your repetitive actions and thoughts and says, loudly and clearly: CHANGE IT NOW.

More than that, the Tower is an invitation to look at your foundations. Whatever is being shaken - the foundation was never as sturdy as you thought. Ask yourself:

Did you build a life around people-pleasing?

Did you build a relationship on something other than honesty?

Did you build a career by kicking and clawing your way to the top without caring who you stepped on?

The Tower says: a cosmic shake-up is coming, and it's time to take inventory of what you've been building on.

The Actual Blessing: When the Tower Shows Up in Your Future

Here's the part people miss, and it's the most important part.

I believe every reading has room to change - if you use your personal power to make that change happen. So when the Tower shows up in a future position, instead of throwing your hands up and saying "oh f*cking well" and spiraling into fear, let it offer you something more valuable: guidance.

The Tower in your future is a heads-up. It's your guides saying: we see what you're building, and we need you to course correct before this comes down on its own. That is a gift.

Don't be scared of the Tower. Be grateful it showed up.
